Soult — Digital Legacy Vault for Assets, Memories & Family Stories | India
❓ Help Centre

Common questions.
Honest answers.

Everything about how Soult works — legality, security, executor flow, privacy, cultural concerns, and more. No marketing language. Just the truth.

Legality & Indian Law

Wills, legal status,
and what Soult actually is

"I have it on my phone, so it's a Digital Will."

Can I create a valid Will entirely on the Soult app?
Short answer: Not under current Indian Law

The Information Technology Act (2000) specifically excludes Wills from being recognised as electronic records. To be valid in court, a Will must be on physical paper, signed by you, and attested by two witnesses.

Soult is not a "Digital Will Maker." We are a secure sanctuary for Secondary Evidence — proving that your physical Will exists and reflecting your true intent.

If digital Wills aren't legal yet, why should I store mine here?
Short answer: Physical paper is fragile — intent shouldn't be

In India, original Wills are frequently lost, misplaced, or hidden by relatives. Soult acts as your Recovery Map:

  • Registered Wills: We store the SRO Office location and Registration Number so your family can instantly get a certified copy.
  • Unregistered Wills: Your digital copy and Video Intent serve as powerful evidence to prove Sound Mind in court.
Privacy & Shared Devices

Your vault is yours alone.
Even on a shared phone.

"My family knows my phone password anyway."

My family has each other's fingerprints on our phones. Can they see my vault?
Short answer: No — we enforce Total Separation

Biometrics (Face ID or fingerprint) unlock the device, but they do not tell us who is holding the phone. Soult requires a separate MPIN known only to you. Even if your spouse unlocks your phone with their fingerprint, they cannot open the Soult app without this unique code.

Can I share my vault with my spouse or children while I am alive?
Short answer: No — by design

Soult is a Private Sanctuary. We removed the Share button to protect you from accidental leaks, coercion or pressure to reveal assets, and premature family conflict.

Access is granted only after you pass away or are medically incapacitated, via the strict Executor Protocol.

What if someone pressures me to reveal my MPIN?
Short answer: Soult is designed to reduce that risk

There is no live sharing, no partial unlocks, and no preview modes. You can honestly say, "I can't show you. The app doesn't allow it." Sometimes, software protects you from people.

Soult vs Other Tools

Different tools.
Different purposes.

"I already use free tools for this."

How is Soult different from DigiLocker?
Short answer: Government Repository vs. Private Sanctuary
  • DigiLocker is designed for government-issued documents (Aadhaar, Driving Licence, Marksheets) for official verification.
  • Soult is designed for your private legacy — your intent, family stories, bank details, and personal wishes that the government does not and should not have access to.

DigiLocker has no mechanism to hand over your account to a family member upon death. Soult is built specifically for that transfer.

Why not just use Google Drive, Email, or WhatsApp?
Short answer: Habit isn't safety
  • WhatsApp — High Risk. If your phone is lost or stolen, chat history is often easily accessible. Sharing passwords here exposes your entire life.
  • Google Drive / Email — Passive Storage. If you pass away, they stay locked. Your family faces a Digital Lockout because platforms like Google have strict privacy laws preventing access by others.
  • Soult — Active Transfer. We keep it locked while you live, but have a verified protocol to unlock it for your Executor when you are gone.
Executor Flow & Verification

How your family
actually gets access.

"How does my family actually get access?"

How does the Executor Flow work?
Short answer: A 4-step human verification process
  • Report: Family taps "Report Death / Emergency" in the app. The account remains locked.
  • Verify: Our back-office team manually verifies the Death or Medical Certificate directly with the issuing hospital or authority. We do not trust bots.
  • Unlock: Only after human confirmation is the specific vault unlocked exclusively for the Executor.
  • Read-Only: The Executor gets read-only access. They can view your legacy to carry out your wishes, but they cannot edit or delete a single word.
How do you prevent a prank report of my death?
Short answer: Strict manual validation — access is never automatic

If the documents submitted cannot be verified with the issuing authority, the request is rejected and the vault remains sealed. No document, no access. Ever.

What if my executor loses their phone or changes their number?
Short answer: Access is tied to identity, not a device

We re-verify the Executor's identity, revoke old sessions, and issue fresh access only after validation. No single phone controls your legacy.

What if I never set an executor?
Short answer: We warn you. Repeatedly.

Without an executor, no one can legally access your vault. We use gentle in-app reminders to ensure you appoint someone, but we never force it. The decision is always yours.

More Than a Death App

Soult is full of life.
Not just an end-of-life tool.

"Is this app only for when I die?"

Is Soult just a "Dead Man's Switch"?
Short answer: No. Soult is full of life.

Traditional vaults are graves — they sit in the dark until the end. Soult is a Garden. It is an operating system for living better today. It helps you find your insurance policy next week, organise your active chaos, and capture memories while they are fresh.

Is Soult a journaling app?
Short answer: Yes, but one-of-a-kind

Most journals are diaries. Soult is a Guided Legacy System. We do not just ask "How was your day?" We guide you to capture wisdom — mentorship for your children, family recipes and traditions, life values, and the stories that define who you are.

Technology & Security

Is my data
actually safe?

"Is my data actually safe?"

Where is my data stored? Is it inside India?
Short answer: Yes, for Indian users

User data for India is stored on AWS infrastructure with India-region data residency (Mumbai, ap-south-1). We do not move personal vault data across borders. This is compliant with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Is there an audit trail if someone accesses my vault?
Short answer: Yes — nothing is silent

We track login attempts, executor unlock events, access timestamps, and device metadata. Everything is logged and accountable. You can always see who accessed what and when.

Can Soult employees read my data?
Short answer: No

We use Zero Trust Architecture. Your content is encrypted with AES-256. Employees have no ability to browse user vaults — they can only see system metadata such as uptime and errors. Your vault content is invisible to us.

Why isn't Soult built on Blockchain?
Short answer: Privacy over permanence

Blockchain is immutable — it cannot be changed. But life changes. You might divorce, rewrite your Will, or want to delete a painful memory. Putting sensitive data on a public ledger is a privacy nightmare because you lose the Right to Delete.

Our roadmap plans to use blockchain only for Proof of Existence — timestamping to verify a document existed at a certain time, without exposing its actual content to the chain.

Can my data be accessed offline?
Short answer: Very selectively
  • Works offline: Emergency QR codes (medical and organ donation preferences) work offline — the data is embedded directly in the QR code, no server needed.
  • Requires internet: Full vault access, financial data, and legal documents require an internet connection for security validation.
What You Can Store

30+ asset types.
Every part of your life.

"What exactly can I store?"

What kind of financial assets can I document?
Short answer: The critical pillars of an Indian household

Soult covers 30+ asset types. The most common include:

  • Bank Accounts & Fixed Deposits
  • Post Office Schemes (PPF, NSC)
  • Property Documents
  • Jewellery & Gold
  • Insurance Policies

Plus investments, digital assets, vehicles, business interests, loans, and much more.

Is Soult just for photos and memories?
Short answer: No — Soult creates context, not just archives

Dumping a photo gallery creates noise. Soult creates meaning. Store only the most essential photos and add the story. Preserve why the photo matters, not just the pixel data. The goal is your family understanding your life — not sorting through 10,000 files.

Health & Emergency Access

What if I'm in a coma
or can't speak?

"What if I'm in a coma?"

What is an "Emergency Executor"?
Short answer: A spouse-only role for incapacity

Currently, this role is restricted only to your spouse due to legal proximity in medical decision-making. If you are incapacitated, they get access to Medical Insurance and Health Directives only. Your full financial vault remains locked.

How can my family see my medical preferences in an emergency?
Short answer: A zero-server QR Code system
  • You save your organ donation and medical preferences in the app.
  • Soult generates a unique QR Code with this data embedded directly inside it.
  • When scanned, it reveals preferences locally on the phone. No server access needed and no other vault data is exposed.
  • If you change your preferences, a new QR Code is generated. Share the new version with your loved ones.
Business Model & Identity

No insurance sales.
No commissions. No profiling.

"Is this a Fintech app?"

Is Soult a Fintech or Insurance app?
Short answer: No — Soult is a wellbeing app

Our only product is your peace of mind. We do not sell insurance. We earn no commissions. We do not profile your data. The business model is simple: you pay for a subscription, and we keep your vault secure.

I am a student. Why is this app for me?
Short answer: You are a future-proof citizen

Right now, store personal IDs, certifications, and early memories to build your personal vault. More importantly, your parents may name you as their Executor. Soult helps you understand that responsibility early — so when the time comes, you are ready.

Account Management

The practical questions
about your account.

"What happens to my money and my data?"

What if I forget my MPIN?
Short answer: Recovery via Secret Question

Soult relies on Memory, not Biometrics — your access is in your mind, not on your finger.

  • Primary Recovery: You will be asked the Secret Question you set during registration.
  • Ultimate Fallback: If you forget the answer, validate your identity via OTP on both your registered email and mobile number.
What happens if my subscription expires?
Short answer: Your data is never held hostage

Your vault becomes Read-Only. You cannot add new memories, but your existing data is safe and the Executor protocols remain intact. Your family is never punished for a billing lapse.

What if Soult stops operating?
Short answer: Data Sunset Window

Responsible companies plan for exit. If operations ever cease, we provide a mandatory window to download your entire vault in a readable format. Your data belongs to you — we are custodians, not owners.

Can I delete my account?
Short answer: Yes. Always.

Deletion is final. Before deleting, we warn you about permanent loss and offer data export. After deletion, all encrypted data is permanently erased. No recovery is possible.

Cultural Concerns

The deep-rooted Indian questions
we hear most often.

Myths, habits, and real hesitations — answered honestly.

Why not just keep a physical diary in my locker?
Short answer: Physical risks are greater than digital risks

A physical diary has no User Permissions. If a relative, a maid, or a thief finds the key, they see everything.

Soult allows you to compartmentalise. Your Executor sees only what they need to see, and only when they need to see it.

Isn't it inauspicious to plan for death so early? (Shubh-Shubh Bolo)
Short answer: We plan for Life, not Death

You buy car insurance not because you want to crash, but because you value the car. Soult is the ultimate act of care — it ensures that your hard work and love protect your family no matter what happens.

I don't have crores of property. Do I really need this?
Short answer: Bureaucracy hits everyone equally

Even a small bank account or PF balance can get stuck in legal limbo for years if the nominee is unclear or details are lost. Soult is not about how much you have — it is about making sure your family gets whatever you have, without running around courts.

My CA or financial advisor knows everything. Why do I need Soult?
Short answer: They handle compliance, not legacy

Your CA knows your taxes, but do they know your emotional wishes? Do they know where the spare house key is? Will they be available at 2 AM in a medical emergency? Soult bridges the gap between your financial data and your personal life instructions.

My family is very united. We won't fight.
Short answer: Clarity protects unity

70% of civil court cases in India are property disputes within families. Fights rarely happen because of greed — they happen because of confusion ("Did Dad want me to have the gold or you?").

Soult removes the confusion so your family can focus on grieving, not arguing.
